Legend of the Phoenix is an otome (a dating game geared mainly toward children) in which you control a low-class maiden looking for love in the imperial court of ancient China. The game manages to successfully combine several different mechanics, bringing together elements from games like Love Nikki or Call me a Legend, to offer a new experience, which allows you to accompany the young protagonist throughout her lifetime.

First, make your maiden

The first thing you can do when you start playing Legend of the Phoenix is to choose the way your character looks. You won't have many customization options to begin with, as you will only be able to choose from a few different faces and outfits. However, choosing a good name is a key step. The name you give to your character in the character creation process will accompany you throughout the story.

Live the ancient Chinese lifestyle

After choosing your character's initial appearance, you can go about your life in ancient China. You will have to improve your heroine's skills by carrying out common household tasks, such as doing the laundry or sweeping the floor. Doing so allows you to gain experience, which in turn means you can level up and improve your attributes. This is the way to advance in the main story, where you will meet several characters with which you can duel. These duels are fast-paced and based on your reputation.

You can scroll through different menus, as if Legend of the Phoenix were a strategy game. The game also has a lot of dialogues and lines of text to read, which can be skipped if desired. However, skipping is not recommended. The story and the conversations between characters are the game's lifeblood. After key dialogues, you will also have to make big decisions that will determine the course of your story.
